Job Description

Long Island Progressive Coalition seeks Community Organizer to work on Progressive Taxation to run a campaign to pass fair share tax reform effort.

The community organizer uses a variety of approaches to shift the public conversation and influence public policy, including community organizing, coalition building, earned media, messenger training, and legislative outreach.


Communications –together with leadership team, plan and implement communications effort: respond to press queries, generate press events and attention to our issue.

Outreach/Lobbying – communicate with opinion leaders and political leaders to create public engagement and involvement in this issue.

Community Organizing–build a strong coalition of supporters and allies to participate in the campaign and organize community events.


  • Commitment to social, economic and racial justice.
  • Experience in community organizing or political campaigns.
  • Creative approach to problem-solving and ability to strategize.
  • Ability to travel, including having a reliable car.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends; and
  • Effective public speaking skills.
  • Ability to start immediately.
